Former Ireland international Conor Murray will present a new rugby podcast for the BBC.

The multi-decorated scrum-half is teaming up with BBC Sport NI’s Gavin Andrews to host The Ireland Rugby Social starting on Tuesday 28 October.

With 125 caps for Ireland, Murray brings unmatched experience, insight, and authenticity to every episode - offering fans a rare glimpse into the mindset of a professional athlete who has lived the highs and lows of international rugby.

Each week, Conor and Gavin sit down with players, coaches and rugby insiders to unpack the biggest stories in the sport.

From Six Nations rivalries and World Cup memories to the evolving tactics of the modern game, The Ireland Rugby Social will go beyond the headlines to explore what really happens on and off the pitch. Expect honest conversations, tactical breakdowns and the kind of behind-the-scenes stories only a seasoned pro can tell.

The first episode kicks off with the inside story of one of the most iconic chapters in Irish rugby. Former Ireland and Ulster captain Rory Best will join Conor and Gavin to set the stage for Ireland’s rematch against New Zealand at Soldier Field, Chicago - the venue for Ireland’s epic encounter in 2016 that sealed their first win against the All Blacks.

Conor won five Six Nations titles, including two Grand Slams, during a glittering career in the green jersey as well as 206 appearances for Munster. Co-presenting The Ireland Rugby Social, Murray is looking forward to sharing that experience with fans of the game and delving into the rugby stories that connect fans and players at all levels.

Conor said: "Rugby has been such a big part of my life for so long, so I think staying connected to it is a good idea.

"I can give some insight, get some guests with some interesting stories - stories that you maybe haven't heard before. I know the guests we have will be able to relax and tell us their true thoughts and stories."

Presenting alongside Conor is Gavin Andrews, who has anchored BBC Sport NI’s coverage of rugby over the years – at provincial and international level.

“Rugby fans, sport fans and anyone who loves a good podcast, are in for a real treat with Conor joining us for The Ireland Rugby Social," he said.

"Conor’s a sporting legend and brings an unbelievable depth of knowledge, respect and kudos from within the game.

"Over the course of the series we will, of course, be analysing those big talking points with top players and coaches - past and present. I imagine we’ll have plenty of laughs and anecdotes from Conor and our guests.

"And we’ll also be bringing fans the lesser-known stories that connect the game with communities, the personal stories about how the game has changed lives and the role the game plays for people right across the island of Ireland.”

The Ireland Rugby Social will be available on BBC Sounds and wherever you get your podcasts from Tuesday 28 October.
