A COLERAINE man injured in a late-night shooting incident in the Heights area of the town is recovering from his injuries following hospital treatment, the Chronicle understands.
Police arrested a man in his 70s following the incident, involving a nail gun, at a residential property in the Killowen Street area shortly after 11.30pm last Wednesday, 18 February.
Ambulance and police crews attended the scene where they discovered a man aged in his 20s had been shot in the shoulder.
A 77-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon with intent and wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call on Wednesday, 18th February, following reports of an incident in the Killowen Street area, Coleraine.
“NIAS dispatched one emergency ambulance to the scene.”
A spokesperson for the PSNI said: “The arrest follows the report of a disturbance at an address in the Killowen Street area of the town in which a man, aged in his 20s, sustained an injury to his shoulder requiring hospital treatment, believed to have been caused by a nail gun.
“The arrested man remains in custody at this time.”
The Chronicle believes the injured man was taken to hospital where surgeons removed a nail from his shoulder.
