COUNCILLORS have agreed proposals for a memorial to a man who displayed “exceptional bravery” before he was killed by a terrorist bomb.
UDR soldier, Corporal John Conley was caught in a blast in Bridge Street Garvagh while supervising the evacuation of residents in the early hours of July 23, 1974.
On Tuesday evening members of the Causeway Coast and Glens Leisure and Development committee voted eight to four in favour of installing a plinth dedicated to his memory next to the town’s war memorial.
