CAUSEWAY Coast and Glens look set to conduct an audit on the number of second homes and short term rentals across the area, after a council decision agreed last week.
Councillors at the Corporate Policy and Resources Committee meeting on Tuesday, June 24 agreed to an amendment proposed by DUP Councillor Mark Fielding’s of a Notice of Motion originally proposed by Alliance Cllr Peter McCully.
Cllr McCully’s original motion had proposed that a proposal should be developed to take to the NI Executive, to secure additional powers allowing council a role in regulation of these properties.
In proposing this, Cllr McCully said, he was hopeful that the passing of the motion would prompt the NI Executive “to stop sitting on its hands”, on what he described as “one of the biggest issues in our borough.”
