NEW legislation to address second homes is unlikely to be brought through the Assembly anytime soon thanks to “competing priorities” at Stormont, councillors have been told
Instead government officials have suggested Causeway Coast and Glens Council adopt a ‘bespoke local policy’ via the planing system.
The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) said Local Development Plans - drawn up by councils to guide their planners’ assessment of development applications, were the best way to tackle the issue at a local level.
In a letter to the council’s planning committee, officials said they hoped to bring in province-wide rules in future but currently second homes were too far down the priority list.
