DISPLACED jobs and the likely loss of a major event are among the consequences of unreasonable media attention on council land transactions, according to the council’s top officer.
In an exclusive interview with this newspaper conducted to mark the 10th anniversary of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Chief Executive David Jackson says sensational headlines have been “unfair and unjustified”, often based on facts that have been “twisted” to suit the agenda of certain individuals.
The effect has been the erosion of the ‘can-do’ attitude officers and elected members set out with when the council was established in 2015.
And the ‘super-safe’ approach now adopted has not only hampered their ability to attract investment but also created bureaucratic obstacles for community groups seeking use of council land.
