COLERAINE’S oldest bar celebrated in style for the inauguration of the 47th President-elect of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump.
The well-known barman of the Queens Arms, Terence O’Neill, adorned the 70-year-old family-run pub with stars and stripes in honor of Donald Trump, who was sworn in for his second term yesterday.
Terence, who was also celebrating his own birthday, wanted to mark the occasion with a party that would bring people together to witness the historic event.
“I thought, we’ll sit and have a few drinks for my birthday and we’ll sit and watch the inauguration too.
“We can talk about who likes or who doesn’t like Donald Trump. That’s why people come to the pub, you come to enjoy the chats, the craic, and enjoy the atmosphere," he explained.
Terence’s cross Atlantic connection with America comes from time working in San Francisco, with his brother working in Philadelphia, and his father who worked in Philadelphia for nearly 20 years.
Coleraine is a popular spot for Americans visitors, particularly during The Open, where O’Neill used the connection from Donald Trump as an opportunity to bring in a wider range of customers to the Queens Arms.
Explaining the diversity of the bar as a “Good, mixed community, where everything is taken in good fun.
“It’s just a bit of craic,” added Terence.
