SOLAR farms could be a key factor in growing the economy of Causeway Coast and Glens, according to a council report.

Generating sustainable energy within the borough is seen as important due to an historic weakness in power supply in the north of the province.

According to a Commons Northern Ireland Affairs Committee report published in 2017, the north east is one of several areas suffering “disparity of supply.”

That’s why developing home-grown energy sources is seen as vital for the borough’s economic prospects.

Solar farms are identified as the solution in a document drawn up by Causeway Coast and Glens Council.

The report sets out short, medium and long term priorities for the expansion of the borough’s flagging economy under a new Sub Regional Economic Plan.
