TWO brothers have appeared in court charged with the murder of 17-year-old Blake Newland in Limavady.

Stephen McGlinchey, 27, from Ballyhanedin Road in Claudy and Andrew McGlinchey, 29, from Roe Mill Gardens in Limavady, are jointly charged with the teenager's murder on 2 February.

The elder brother, Andrew McGlinchey, is also charged with assaulting a police officer on the same date.

Blake Newland was stabbed multiple times in Woodland Walk in Limavady on Friday night.

Three people, including Mr Blake and a man in his 50s, were taken to hospital after police and ambulance crews were called to the scene.

Both men appeared via videolink at Antrim Magistrates' Court, sitting in Ballymena, earlier today (Tuesday).

A police officer told the court that he could connect each of the defendants to their charges.

No application for bail was made for either man.

District Judge Nigel Broderick remanded both of them into custody and adjourned the case.

Both men are due to appear in court again next month.
