NORTH Coast locals are finding it almost impossible to secure a long-term rented home while the number of houses being offered as short-term holiday lets is continuing to grow.
That’s what members of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council heard when concerns over the sector’s impact on coastal communities were raised with Tourism NI’s Chief Executive.
John McGrillen said “growth has slowed but certainly not declined.”
But, he insisted, owners of properties let to holidaymakers without certification from his organisation would be prosecuted.
Fears that local families were finding it harder and harder to find somewhere to live while thousands of second homes were being repurposed as Air BnBs were voiced by Alliance councillor Peter McCully last Tuesday evening.
