Report recommends marina sell-off

COUNCILLORS are to consider selling-off Coleraine Marina.

The facilities on the River Bann next to Causeway Coast and Glens corporate HQ were officially opened in 1969.

A ‘disposal’ recommendation is contained in an economic appraisal commissioned by the council’s Environmental Services Committee.

While that report remains unpublished, the conclusion was revealed by an internal audit of all harbours and marinas owned by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

The audit states: “An economic appraisal (EA) has been carried out on Coleraine marina and has recommended disposal as the main option – this report is scheduled for to be brought to Members at the September 2023 Environmental Services committee for decision.”

The internal audit suggests the cost of maintaining harbour facilities may be the driving force behind a sell-off recommendation.
