THE council is to strike a deal with a group of history buffs that will ensure a new blue plaque is unveiled in the borough every year.
The Ulster History Circle (UHC) is a not-for-profit organisation responsible for placing the iconic blue circular plaques in public spaces.
On Tuesday members of the Leisure and Development Committee agreed partnership required to guarantee one installation per year.
The committee also agreed that the first plaque erected under the new arrangements should be in memory of physicist James Sayers.
The idea was first raised by the DUP’s John Finlay via a Notice of Motion tabled in 2020. Though Cllr Finlay died last year, the proposal prompted officers to make contact with Ulster History Circle.
