NOT a single consultant applied for two vacant roles in the Causeway Hospital's Maternity Service, health chiefs have revealed.
The failure to attract candidates was described as “unprecedented” in a Northern Health Trust briefing document and suggests, according to anecdotal feedback, that the hospital is “an increasingly unattractive option” for medical professionals.
Maternity services are currently provided at both Antrim and Causeway Hospitals, but last month the Trust launched a consultation on the service's future, pointing out that consultants and midwives were spread too thinly across both sites.
