KIERAN O’Neill made light of his 14 handicap to post a three over par round in the 15 hole Portstewart Golf Club Strand Saturday Stableford.
He set off with seven pars then added back-to-back birdie threes on eight and nine for a two under par front nine worth 29 points.
The back six was covered in five over par to add in another 12 points for Kieran’s winning tally of 41.
Runners up spot was taken by Joshua Dillon with the best of five 35 pointers.
Joshua, off 18, played the opening nine in nine over par for 18 points and the inward six in four over par for 15.
Third place went to the 35 pointer from Greg McPeak, off 15. He carded 20 points for his seven over par front nine and added 15 for a back six that included a blank at the tenth and a birdie three at 11.
Brian Shaw, off 14, was third with his 35-point offering. Brian was out in five over for 22 points and back in four over for 13 more.
Nine handicapper Martin Whittle birdied the fourth and seventh in fours in his 23 point one over par opening nine holes.
The 11th gave him nothing but a birdie four on 13 helped in getting 12 points back for his 35-point tally.
The final 35 pointer came from Michael Kilgore, playing off 11. Michael logged a birdie three at the fifth and a two at the short sixth in his two over par front nine worth 23 points.
This was followed by a four over par back six that put 12 points to the card for a total of 35.
The best gross for the day was posted by Mark Kilgore with a one over par score of 60. Mark dropped shots at five and nine but nabbed a birdie four on the seventh to be out in one over par 37. He added six pars to finish on one over par 60
If Jim Lenfesty’s favourite club wasn’t his nine iron before, it is now, as he used it in hitting a HOLE-IN-ONE at the short sixth! He is pictured here with Chair, David Lamont, and his commemorative flag.
