A CRUCIAL win at the top for Limavady United allowed them to narrow the gap between themselves and league rivals Annagh United.

Last night's match kicked off at Seaview against Belfast side Queen's University, and a Leon Boyd double -a goal in each half -was enough to secure the win and three points at the top.

Limavady are coming off the back of a 2-0 defeat in the quarter-final of the Irish Cup, which was described as a “nice distraction from the league”, but now full attention is back on their bid for promotion, which continues again this Saturday in a quick turnaround match against Newington at Inver Park.

The race for the Championship crown is, and has been throughout the season, razor-thin between Limavady and Annagh United.

Following a trio of games that saw Limavady drop points, Annagh were able to edge past them after Limavady's scoreless draw against Loughgall.

The next two match results for both teams will decide who leads the race going into the split in just two short weeks. Limavady play Newington this weekend and then third-place H&W Welders the following week, while Annagh play Warrenpoint Town on Saturday and Dundela the following week.
