Limavady United warmed up for Saturday's Irish Cup quarter final against Coleraine with a 2-0 defeat at Ards on Tuesday night.
Goals from Eamon Scannell and Jamie Browne condemned the Roesiders to just a fourth league loss of the season.
On the same night, an early goal from Lee Upton gave Annagh United the points in a 1-0 defeat of Warrenpoint Town at the BMG Arena.
The results mean the Armagh club replaces Limavady Utd at the head of affairs in the Championship table.
Two points separate the top two after 30 games, with both some way clear of H&W Welders back in third.
The midweek defeat for Paul Owens' side follows Friday night's 1-1 draw against Dundela at Wilgar Park.
Next up in a busy week is Saturday's eagerly anticipated Irish Cup clash at the Coleraine Showgrounds against Premiership side Coleraine.
They, too, lost in their last league outing, beaten 3-1 by Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park.
