IFA president Conrad Kirkwood has officially opened the new community pitch at the Coleraine Showgrounds.
The mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Cllr Oliver McMullan, also attended the official opening on Wednesday February 4.
Henry Ross, Colin McKendry and Dale Pryde-MacDonald were present on behalf of Coleraine Football Club.
The pitch, completed thanks to funding from the Irish FA and DCMS Grassroots Facility Investment Fund, has already played a massive role in the community such as our ‘Man On’ project and hosting games at the 2025 Foyle Cup tournament.
Also in attendance were representatives from Causeway Coast and Glens Council, local MLAs, members of the North West Football Association and CC&G Chamber of Commerce.
Coleraine Future Town Fund was also represented, while Maria and Emma Diamond from Coleraine FC Women’s Team and Reece Mulholland from the Man on Men’s mental health programme offered their support.
Speaking about the importance of the new pitch for the local community, Chief Executive Officer, Dale Pryde-MacDonald, said: “As a club we are really proud to officially open the new Community pitch here at The Showgrounds, thanks to key funding from the Irish FA & DCMS Grassroots Facility Investment Fund.
“The community pitch will be a vital asset to our local community moving forward and will allow the club to grow our community outreach to meet the needs of our local people.
“The new surface will also address the demand for further facilities in the North West and offer other community groups, organisations and local schools a place that can be used for engagement and participation.
“Our thanks go to the Coleraine FC project management team, the Irish FA’s facilities team as well as DCMS for making this happen and providing a really positive step forward for sport in Coleraine.”
Coleraine FC officials thank David Boyd and Bobby Farren for delivering the project on behalf of Coleraine Football Club.
