Limavady United will look to maintain their advantage at the top of the Championship when they make the long journey to Warrenpoint Town this weekend.

The Roesiders currently enjoy a three point lead over nearest challengers Annagh United but have played a game more.

At the weekend, Paul Owens' side defeated Armagh City 50 at the Coleraine Showgrounds thanks to an Ian Parkhill hat-trick after coming on as a sub and strikes from Mikhail Kennedy and John Butcher.

“It was a good result, yes we got the goal in the first 30 seconds but I still think that we weren't near our levels, I think we could have been up two or three goals in the first 10 minutes," admitted Paul Owens afterwards.

“There should be a clear understanding for us that we need to be much better going forward, but initially every time you come to a game of football you want to win all three points – and at the end of the day that's what we got.

“I've been very critical sometimes with the subs coming off of the bench, it's not an individual matter but just throughout the whole team.

“We needed that wee spark today and for Parky to come on and score a hat-trick was what we needed.

“Three really good goals and he took the penalty very well.”

Second-placed Annagh United, meanwhile, recovered from a two-goal deficit to defeat Newington 3–2, ensuring the title race remains tight.

“We heard Annagh were two-nil down at half time but all that we worry about in our changing room is about our players, we want to run our own race and our destiny is in our own hands," continued the Limavady Utd manager.

“We don't really worry about anybody else but, yes, it would have been nice for the other teams to drop points, but my concern was for our three points - and thankfully we got took them.”

Attention now turns to this weekend’s league clash away to Warrenpoint Town, where Limavady will look to maintain their momentum after a 3–3 draw between the sides earlier in the season.

“We have a massive game against Warrenpoint on Saturday and it's a chance for us to go in there and get another three points and keep on moving towards promotion in this league," said Owens.
