Tributes have been paid to former Coleraine player and manager, William 'Iam' McFaul, who has sadly passed away at the age of 82.
A native of Coleraine, Iam began his career at the Showgrounds before moving on to Linfield and Newcastle United, where he quickly became a fans' favourite.
He was an integral part of the Newcastle United team which won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (predecessor of the UEFA Cup and Europa League) in 1969, famously saving a penalty in the semi-final against Glasgow Rangers at Ibrox.
In all, he proudly served the north east club between 1966 and 1988 as goalkeeper, coach, assistant manager and manager.
Famously, he gave a first team debut to a young Paul Gascoigne during his time in charge at St James Park and also managed the likes of Peter Beardsley among others.
Iam McFaul returned home to Coleraine after leaving Newcastle United and succeeded Jim Platt as manager at the Showgrounds.
He managed his home town club between 1989 and 1992, helping to launch the careers of many young players including fellow goalkeeper Davy O'Hare and Paul Gaston.
As a player, Iam won six full caps for Northern Ireland at a time when Pat Jennings was regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the game.
A spokesperson for Coleraine FC says the club wishes to send their condolences to Iam's family and friends at this sad time.
