OVER 90 guests attended a celebration of the Arabic culture by the Causeway Multi Cultural Forum in Coleraine.
The West Bann Development Centre was the venue for the event held on Saturday, April 13.
A CMCF spokesperson described it as “a wonderfully diverse, educational and interesting celebration of the Arabic culture which many countries share.”
“It was thoroughly enjoyed by over 90 guests, which included entire families and friends and also many of our refugee community now living locally,” the spokesperson added.
The event was attended by Yvonne Boyle, Chair of The Borough Of Sanctuary, who donated funds to accommodate transport for local refugees in the whole Triangle area, who wished to attend.
Causeway Coast and Glens Mayor, Stephen Callaghan, welcomed the many guests and participants and also stayed to interact and enjoy the celebration.
“Everyone was welcomed with a glass of mint tea/Arabic coffee, traditional drinks in this very colourful culture,” continued the spokesperson.
“A lovely musical performance was given by Siwar from Iran. Aya and Ayssed, two schoolgirls originally from Egypt and Syria, told some traditional stories. “There was a very popular Henna Art activity, given by Zaine Chowdrey and Madpa Khizar in which many guests, children and adults alike, had beautiful henna artwork painted on hands. Meanwhile, throughout the event, a craft session was provided for the kids.
“To challenge the guests, a fun quiz about Arabic countries was held, entertaining and informative for all.
“And delicious Arabic food was enjoyed by all participants and guests, while people chatted and got to know each other.
“Finally, CMCF would like to thank everyone who helped and participated in this very successful event. The celebration was made possible through funding from The National Lottery Community Fund,” added the spokesperson
