CAUSEWAY Coast and Glens Borough Council has agreed to press ahead with plans to provide brand new leisure facilities at the Recreation Grounds in Portrush.

On Tuesday members agreed to produce detailed designs, lodge a planning application and began the procurement process.

The outline business case approved on Tuesday includes provision of new bowling greens and pavilion, event space and small play area plus a reduction in the number of tennis courts.

The go-ahead was given despite concerns raised by councillors on behalf of local Facebook group, Portrush Matters.

Angela Mulholland said she'd received an email claiming the proposals did not fulfil the wishes of local people and that no adequate consultation had taken place.

In response a senior officer said the email was “full of misinformation”.

In fact, he said, 22 stakeholder groups had been helped formulate the plans - among them representatives of Portrush Matters.
