Waste less and 'Live Smart'



CAUSEWAY Coast and Glens Council Environmental Resource Officers are working on a number of new initiatives under the ‘Live Smart’ scheme in order to improve recycling across the borough.

Recently, councillors received information at a Environmental Services Committee meeting on Tuesday, October 4, when the relevant authorities provided a detailed account on how they aim to reduce the growing problem of plastic waste.

The ‘Plastic Smart’ initiative was launched earlier this year and it was introduced in order to combat the plastic problem being experienced in the area.

Each year, 400 million tonnes of plastic waste is produced worldwide which is having a detrimental effect on our precious coastline and wildlife as it is estimated that eight million items of plastic enters oceans every day.
