Boyds serving up a £135k investment with Coleraine cafe

THE Ballymoney based Boyd Restaurants Group, founded by the young entrepreneur and restaurant operator, Gareth A. Boyd, has announced the opening of Edition Café in Coleraine after investing £135,000 in the premises.

The group started off with his father, Ivor Boyd’s first establishment in 2009, Logans Restaurant & Café, Cloughmills and has grown to include Boyds Café, Ballymoney and it’s latest, Edition Café after acquiring the Three Kings premises on Kingsgate Street, Coleraine.

Gareth, (25), or ‘GA’ as many know him, splits his time between all three locations, believes the latest opening is their opportunity to get in to a high footfall location and offer a different style of venue.

“After joining my father’s business back in 2009, we’ve made huge achievements because we are a tremendous team and are so hands on with our venues,” he said.

“This investment is a key component in our growth plans to open further into high footfall areas.

“We are extremely proud to employ chefs and bakers in each kitchen, it’s one massive advantage to the many outlets on the market – we’re cooking fresh food and sourcing local ingredients.

“We have a huge growth strategy for the next five years, with plans to open or acquire venues in Belfast, Derry and Dublin!

“We also have been approached on numerous hotel opportunities, but the right one hasn’t come across my desk just yet! The potential for business as a whole is very exciting and the day I don’t find it fun, I’ll stop working 120 hours a week.”

There are no immediate plans to expand any further next year unless the right opportunity presents itself, but Gareth says the future is bright for the group and even more so for his 30 plus employees.

“Going into the year end and 2018, we’re going to be cautious with the uncertainty of Brexit and hospitality vat.

“Since we have over 30 people in our three locations, we’ve got a huge responsibility in employment and it’s one area I love about our business, we’ve created such a great working environment which reflects on our customers experience.

“My father always told me ‘look after your team and they’ll look after you, but most importantly your customer’. So each time we go to expand or acquire, I love the chance of promoting someone within the group and giving them the opportunity they deserve,” Gareth added.
