Senior council officers' pay hike

THE NUMBER of council employees earning more than £50,000 has almost doubled in the space of a year.

According to figures contained in Causeway Coast and Glens' Annual Accounts, 22 officers received salaries of between £50k and £120k in the 2017/18 financial year.

Twelve months earlier the number was 12.

The council told the Chronicle the increase was a result of staff members moving up salary bands.

The figures show that only one officer - the Chief Executive - earned over £100k, while on the next tier down, three 'Heads of Service' earned between £80 and £90k.
