FORMER Jordan Grand Prix designer Gary Anderson hopes the visit of the 2012 title-winning Red Bull Racing RB8 car to the north coast can inspire the next generation of F1 engineers.

The Coleraine man spent the best part of five decades involved in Formula One in one way or another and believes others from these shores can follow in his footsteps.

"I hope that seeing an actual car in the flesh might just inspire some new Irish talent to get involved in F1," the 67-year-old told The Chronicle.

The Renault-powered car that took German Sebastian Vettel to the drivers' title six years ago was on display in Portrush at the start of the month.

Motorsport fans got the chance to see the car at close quarters and pose questions about it to representatives of the Red Bull team.

"Red Bull should be congratulated - they are the one team that gets out there and takes the message to the public," added Anderson.
