FORMER British Motocross champion, Graeme Irwin, was full of praise for the Portrush Beach Races after appearing at the event as a special guest at the weekend.

Thousands of spectators lined the East Strand in Portrush to marvel at the sand showdown as competitors competed for honours at the season finale. Despite suffering from a wrist injury, Irwin admits that he is eager to test his skills around the intricate track in the future.

“It is great to be able to come and support the local motocross scene now that I have moved back to Northern Ireland,” Irwin told Chronicle Sport.

“Where else would you want to be when the sun is out and there is motocross on it is absolutely fantastic? What a place!

“It is brilliant to see the amount of children here today and events like this are a great advertisement for grass roots motocross, so hopefully it can give some inspiration."
