Developers cashing in on Open golf grant scheme

A £2.3m development of shops and apartments is among the first beneficiaries of a grant scheme aimed at attracting private sector investment into Portrush.

Developers of the building now under construction in Dunluce Avenue received almost half a million ponds under the Department for Communities Urban Development Grant (UDG) programme set up establish a legacy from next year's Open Championship golf tournament.

The project is a mixed use development which will incorporate two commercial units on the ground floor, 10 apartments on the first and second floors and three penthouse apartments on the top levels.

There are plans for a café or restaurant to occupy one retail unit, with the other not yet specified.

Total project costs for 22 Dunluce Avenue are £2.3m, including Departmental UDG funding of £485k.

Almost 30 full and part-time jobs will be created upon completion.
