Students' vision for Portrush

A FOOTBRIDGE at the Barmouth and tram network for Portrush are among proposals in an ambitious regeneration strategy drawn up by Queen’s University Urban and Rural Planning students.

The report was prepared on behalf of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council to suggest infrastructure improvements for an area that is on the cusp of a new golden age, ushered in by the Open Championship in July 2019 and ever increasing world-wide profile as a visitor destination.

While the study concentrates chiefly on the town of Portrush, it's most eye catching proposal is a new swing bridge across the mouth of the River Bann.

Currently walkers and cyclists following a coastal route are forced to take a five-mile inland diversion via Coleraine to cross the river, the authors say.
